Ford is bringing back the iconic Bronco 4x4 after nearly a quarter-century hiatus, and this has gotten off-road enthusiasts and Ford fans excited! In this article, we will unpack everything we know about the all-new Ford Bronco.
Chassis
The new Bronco is rumored to be underpinned by the same T6 platform as the Ranger pickup. It won't be precisely the same chassis as the classic Bronco. This means that the Bronco will be a body-on-frame vehicle, a configuration that will not only make it a true off-road vehicle but also allow for additional body styles to be created. Another bonus is that the chassis will enable more straightforward modifications for anyone that wants to upgrade or outfit their Bronco.
On a side note, the T6 platform was developed by Ford's Australian team for the Ranger pickup.
Engine
Another rumor is that the Bronco will have the Ford 2.7 L EcoBoost V6. The same engine can be found in the F-150 pickup, Fusion sedan, and the Lincoln Corsair with 325 HP. It's also believed that there may be a four-cylinder turbo version of the Bronco powered by Ford's 2.3 L EcoBoost engine with around 270 HP.
Transmission
Both the four-cylinder and the V6 will have a 10-speed automatic transmission, but there is a chance that Ford might release a manual option, and that is truly exciting for off-road enthusiasts.
When will the 2020 Ford Bronco get released?
We expect the new Bronco to get unveiled at the 2020 Detroit Auto Show. A smaller off-roader will precede it, code-named the "baby Bronco." The model will be based around the same underpinnings as the Ford Escape, but feature a more rugged styling and off-road capability.
